The Golden Rule of Diabetic Cooking (Foundational Lesson)

Welcome to the Diabetic Cooking Pathway! When you are learning to cook for blood sugar management, the biggest win doesn’t come from a complicated recipe—it comes from understanding one simple mechanical rule: Never Let a Carb Go Naked.

The Naked Carb Rule
When you eat a simple carbohydrate (like white bread, white rice, or plain pasta) by itself, your body digests it incredibly fast. This causes a rapid spike in blood sugar, followed by a crash.
To prevent this, we use the kitchen strategy of Pairing. Every time you cook a carbohydrate, you “clothe” it with one or both of these partners:
1. Protein: (Chicken, fish, eggs, tofu, cheese)
2. Healthy Fats & Fiber: (Olive oil, avocado, non-starchy vegetables, nuts)
Protein, fat, and fiber slow down your digestion. This means the glucose enters your bloodstream at a slow, steady walking pace instead of a sprint.
Your Small Win for Today:
You do not need to give up your favorite foods. Your goal this week is simply practice pairing. If you have a slice of toast, pair it with a hard-boiled egg. If you have an apple, pair it with a handful of almonds.
